This outstanding piece from 2023 sees Tension Splash and Stephen Richards of Taproot teaming up and -like most musical works from Tension Splash, only this time with the addition of another brilliant voice- practically launches itself out of the speakers and leaves you jaw agape at the brilliance you've just encountered. Love that tom-tom unison run with the rest of the band-guitar, bass and drums all uniting and building into a crescendo which practically races toward a harmonised "Yeeeaaaahhhh" which makes the hairs stand on the back of the neck and your mind agreeing "Yeah!". Tension Splash possess phenomenal musical skills and the added bonus of Taproot vocalist and guitarist in a brilliant call and response during the "Take Me Down..." "I'm Willing!" refrain is definitely a master-stroke of songwriting and collaboration. The mark of a wonderfully crafted and produced piece of music is there is always something new to enjoy on each listen. "Willing" is just that- a magnificent pairing and consistently surprising as you listen through. Along with the always pleasing previously mentioned unison crescendo build into a "Yeaaaahhh!" there are so many musical surprises here to enjoy-from the intro burst of threes and twos rhythmic structure into that first unison tom run with guitars weaving in and out to the incredible groove led by the bass guitar and drums with guitars interjecting throughout the distorted vocals that comprise the verse...then the call and response refrain to the dynamic shifts and one heck of a guitar solo-this song is utterly fascinating and definitely a collaborative effort that remains another brilliant reflection of how our music community can be when united. Truly awesome.

“Breathe” by indie legends Tension Splash was personally my first introduction to these musicians epic (and I MEAN epic…)songwriting and musical skills. Tension Splash have been artists who are very supportive of others in this community while their own musical talents are extraordinary. A trait often found in our indie scene and one to be grateful we have in our community.
“Breathe” is definitely a brilliant example of Tension Splash’s musical and songwriting skills - tribal drumming around those toms from the drummer adds to the swirling sonic whirlpool-drawing you in along with a hurricane of exquisite guitar riffs and a brilliant vocal performance that together retains all the elements which help make this band a standout. What a song to introduce Tension Splash with. Here we have a brilliant indie band with a lot of heart.
Reading their background gives a huge amount of empathy and understanding toward Tension Splash-so very glad and grateful that Tension Splash continued on after something as difficult as losing a friend-by continuing on I’m hoping it brings them comfort to know that this is one of the best ways to keep the memory of those lost alive-by playing the music you created together, your friends are no longer lost-they are still there with you in the music. Sincere condolences are with you, guys- but also so much gratitude that you continued on. By doing this you’ve given your friend a great honour and all of us in the indie scene something to be immensely proud of. You’re true legends in every way. Utterly deserving of being celebrated and recognised as the amazing indie artists you are.
Tension Splash have long been a personal favourite from our indie community for the sheer quality of their music- and in “Takin’ it Back” this rocking band of grungy riffs have us wandering through Paganini territory with fiddle of the finest calibre (we could say the devil was at play here maybe? Like apparently with Paganini…or a near 27-year-old soon to be blues virtuoso Robert Johnson at some crossroads…) this song certainly has the toes a tappin’ and the music bubbles and grooves its way into your heart, and you cannot get it outta your mind on hearing it. They’ve definitely Takin’ us back through time and space with this toe tapper and full marks for originality here. We see a much different and mellower side flourishing (yet still retaining a lotta devilish quality befitting of indie rock legends) here to a band which excels technically and musically. In “Takin’ it Back” and listening all throughout Tension Splash’s catalog, you’ll find we have another stellar piece of the amazingly huge and diverse indie music pie to celebrate and enjoy. Purely legendary and always inspiring.

💥Tension Splash💥 in support of their 2025 EP titled blue preemptively released "Scared - singe edit".
Establishing the mood with a rich onslaught of interwoven guitars, each part rhythmically and harmonically complementing the next, the song lays down a foundation that’s both cohesive and captivating. The stage is set for introspective, and emotionally resonant vocals that feel both hopeful and dark—ominous yet comforting. As the vocal harmonies layer in, they elevate the atmosphere even further, pulling the listener deeper into the soundscape. And before you know it, the track—running just over four and a half minutes—has taken you on a brief but powerful journey. An amazing release! Thank you Tension Splash for coloring our world that special shade of KICK ASS!
