About
Myles O’Flaherty is an independent solo artist from Australia, composing, recording and producing each instrument and vocal part for Myles O’Flaherty Music, a project started early 2024. Involved in the music scene since age twelve, began his career playing drums(1993), doing session work, teaching drum set (1996-2020) and performing with many bands during this time, studied music performance both group and solo at secondary school and both music performance(jazz/popular) and music industry skills at tertiary level. A life long passion for music including all styles and genres, instruments and sounds. Decided to begin writing my own songs on a one string ukulele found in the garage at age three(1st song composed was the delightfully upbeat “Dead Man Across the Shore”) Previously performed and recorded with Liquid Nales, Bendah, Mark Halliwell, Heidi Gass and the duo “Rise Above, Phoenix” along with Fiona Honeyman and many, many more through those years.
A personal highlight has been being introduced to all the brilliant people and artists from all around our the global indie community through Sweet Beets and the opportunities presented through curating a weekly playlist (which, along with the Driven and Flagship playlists is a brilliant way to discover and get to know the artists and music from all throughout our scene while also being able to share my own music is a wonderful honour and quite an experience to be able to see and hear the depth of talent we have within our global music scene) Another HUGE personal highlight has been the opportunity to collaborate with two indie legends in Whiskey Club and Dashing Skull Club on a special tribute project for a lost friend on a cover of Lou Reed’s “Satellite Of Love”- through the wonderful production skills of Aaron at DSCLabs Productions(also of Dashing Skull Club) this collaboration turned into a celebration of the indie community as it truly is. There’s a whole lot more to come with these collaborations from Myles O’Flaherty Music and the “Dynamic Duo Club Sandwich” (Whiskey Club and Dashing Skull Club) and hopefully more from artists from all around the incredible pool of talent we’re fortunate to have within our global indie scene. That’s where the unity that our indie scene is capable of is at its best.
As for influences I could go on all day-this community inspires the heck outta me. But quite fond of The Beatles, Silverchair (as well as Daniel Johns solo)The Sanctity Of Crows, Whiskey Club, Dashing Skull Club, The Flying Beets, Redial Destination, Even Without Life, Tension Splash, Kathleen Turner Overdrive, The Doors, The Fraz Band, The Fiery Furnaces, Jeff Buckley, Powderfinger, Shakti, Mr. Bungle, Miles Davis, David Bowie, The Belle Vue Zoo, Devendra Banhart, Kate Bush, The Steve Klatt Project, Jimi Hendrix, Herbie Hancock, Tegan Hughes Music, Ween, Robert Johnson, Little Walter, Primus, Patti Smith, Björk, Boorook(Brett Clarke), Weather Report, Frank Zappa, Feminoise, Laurie Anderson, John Lennon, Trenchfoot, the list goes on, and on, and on…Definitely do yourselves a favour and check out these artists and more. Music as a whole fascinates me. Indie music is the wondrous heart of it all. There’s a lot to discover all throughout our global indie community. The bands and artists I’m so grateful to have discovered through our indie community gives me reason to know there is a LOT of brilliance out there and sunshine to enjoy, no matter how bad you feel in the moment-there is always music as your guiding light and an artist around who can profoundly inspire you.

A project that has and will remain one of those incredibly moving moments that will last a lifetime and beyond. “Satellite of Love”: a song by Lou Reed covered by and in collaboration with three artists-Myles O’Flaherty Music, Whiskey Club and 3 members of Dashing Skull Club (along with the production expertise of Dashing Skull Club’s guitarist (playing bass here and adding some additional little Easter eggs, too) John Wayne Spacey at DSCLabs Productions)-in tribute and memory of Leigh Anthony Salmon (born November 23, 1977)
Without the help of the combined musical might of the genius Whiskey Club and purely legendary Dashing Skull Club-this cover song tribute to a dear lost friend wouldn’t be as brilliant or double as the magnificent celebration of the indie community it now sounds it is. Thanks to DSCLabs again; this sounds like a dang awesome party. In the cover art-I’ve only included Leigh’s birthday as opposed to the day he passed as I feel that personally it’s much better to remember the good times shared while he was with us. The fact that this is now sounding like an aural celebration of his life is rather fitting (there’s a lot of the fun and frivolity of his spirit and memories of Leigh sprinkled throughout…he had a huge sense of humour (even considering the horrible moments he struggled with) and as a writer who couldn’t play an instrument taught me a whole lot about music.) There’s a note Whiskey John hits in the reggae section that reminds me of that overzealous guy in a community choir who goes overboard then realises and gets embarrassed…also the teabag lady who gets on that megaphone is related to my throwing teabags around our share house like that muppet who threw fish around on the muppet show-Leigh’s Nana having to clean tea off our roof “how’d this tea get there?” is a pretty hilarious memory…DSCLabs help with the sound design was perfect. There’s a lot of moments that capture my friend I’ll never forget now-thanks to the efforts of DSCLabs, Whiskey John and Dashing Skull Club.
So grateful to the above mentioned Whiskey Club, and Tuna Ferrari, Larz Von Crowley and John Wayne Spacey of Dashing Skull Club along with the production work of DSCLabs Productions. This has turned in my mind not only as a tribute to a lost friend, this is also a celebration of all the friendships gained along the way from all around our indie community. A memory that will be forever cherished.
There are so many brilliant artists and people within our indie community who ultimately deserve to be recognised and celebrated-as long as there’s no harm caused toward another-as each of the fantastic artists and people involved in this magnificent independent music scene all ARE.
