A Part of Me
The Sunflower Symphony captivates and enthrals with a gift for giving a song meaning through musically and lyrical storytelling with this brilliant piece from April, 2025. A compelling songwriting duo with a brilliant catalog to enjoy for us all.
The Sunflower Symphony · A Part of Me ·A Part of Me
So grateful for the opportunity to recently get to learn of, hear about and be blown away by the incredibly moving, simple yet rich and powerful in meaning music which The Sunflower Symphony are capable of, and have brought to our community. There’s a lot to enjoy about the track “A Part Of Me” by The Sunflower Symphony (and indeed all the way throughout the unique and varied catalog from this exceptional double pronged indie music project- Wonderfully crafted songs which are all musically performed by Mike and Vocals are added by Grace) From the jazzy smoking swing feel seeping, seething and popping through the grooves in each successive bar of “A Part Of Me”-primarily from the dancing piano lines which begin and lead this piece-the entire musical backdrop here from Mike-the two to the bar double bass and the elegant shuffle groove from the drums, the hint of synth horns blowing in the background granting vocalist Grace a springboard from which to really let the vocal melody soar here and then there dynamically shift to a whisper conveying an atmospheric tone and reinforcing that this highly impressive duo have really mastered the art of songwriting and allowing space for this song to speak for itself. And speaking of which-the lyrics of which vocalist Grace is singing here have very poetically written lines with quite a sharp edge-Take the opening few verse lyrics-they read like a poem and are performed exquisitely both by Grace and musically supported with fine attention to atmosphere by Mike; “A halo in the black of night, acquiesced, but I love a good fight… Sugar Sweet but I just might turn bitter… A flower forged in a fire, soft edges but jagged inside…call me an enigma, but you’re not even trying to see every part of me…”- you can already see reading through this opening verse and chorus there’s a strength in storytelling within (and a strength of character and resilience within the protagonist of this particular song) that once heard in the setting of this smoky, snarling, subtle, enigmatic, haunting and jazz fuelled song-you’ve pretty much got the idea that here we have a compelling and highly gifted songwriting duo we’re so very fortunate to have in our midst in our indie community. This is quality human made music which evokes quite powerful and profoundly emotive images within the setting of sparse but effective songs which convey the human experience brilliantly. This is only one example, however there is a lot to enjoy about this duo that I’m looking forward to hearing much more of-and I’m certain the indie community and the world as a whole can benefit from hearing the remarkable gifts and music on offer from this duo. Brilliant and Captivating.
