Clocking in at just under 3 minutes something quite unexpected from a progressive rock band-however in subverting our expectations here: who's to say this is not an incredible cunning, wise and immensely refreshing musical plan here-ultimately giving us exactly what progressive music is supposed to bring. Beginning with a framework of an implied 7 rhythmic motif-switching between four and three (a repeating theme throughout...sometimes with a rest on the bar of three (a very syncopated and rhythmically intriguing 4/4 timing...) and an intensely huge drum and guitar tonal swell which announces a major force in the progressive corner of our indie music community. This track packs quite a huge a fascinating punch. The guitar tone here must be mentioned as it is mammoth and quite astonishing as are the drum parts. The bass guitar is a stunningly melodic and rhythmic counterpoint.
Rhythmically complex yet retaining a strong sense of connection musically for the listener (even though this rhythmic scheme is quite intricate it definitely is a banger of a song, catchy and expertly written-the bursts of compound time are a massive and thrilling musical statement here)
Lyrically, we touch on themes of both heavily medicated sedation and the sonic clusters which seeps into a feeling of intense and gradual insanity...bending and twisting toward the edge of madness-the music reflects this outstandingly, a patchwork of interweaving time signatures and dynamics which intersect and develop towards the inevitable mental explosion of which the end scream from the vocals perfectly matches the moment you've broken. With this second explosive effort from the stunning combination of Nadine de Macedo and Christopher Matthew Smith in this collaborative project, Flawed Theorem have definitely and defiantly subverted our expectations brilliantly and packs so much within these three minutes (2:59 to be precise) which leaves you enthralled, captured within the musical themes and lyrical devices which indeed announces once again that Flawed Theorem is an incredible collaborative force. Another reflection of the immense talent all those in our global community are capable of and the encouragement and support of each other's musical gifts which is the best of the indie encapsulated within a collaboration. Stunning.
