Our indie community can often offer us quite a lot of heartwarming and rewarding experiences of which we can all be very proud to belong to and look upon. A collaborative effort is-to this mind-possibly one of the greatest reflections of our indie community as it can be and generally IS. A sharing of musical gifts and highlighting one another’s talents, strengthening a unique bond that music can bring-uniting artists together with a common purpose and goal. This is one of the key elements which makes this global music community such a fantastic environment to belong to. Sometimes these collaborative efforts may not work musically, but that is also the essence and wonder of being human and of being an artist reflecting their life experiences through music-sometimes we have flaws too and this is ok. In most cases however, listening to a collaboration between artists from around our community is a genuinely meaningful and worthwhile experience-as it is for those involved in the creative process. And so it is when considering this particular collaboration. Today, we give the much deserved recognition to the brilliant uniting of three countries, two artists and bands and one brilliant producer-brought together for a worthy and heartfelt cause. As soon as the opening drum fill launches us into the exquisite atmospheric and emotional sonic adventure that “We Were Young” is-you definitely know you’re about to be taken on quite a journey. There’s a whole lot of aural surprises to find on each listen through of this wonderful piece led by the UK’s Fields of Dawn’s songwriting and brilliant vision and Australian indie legends Kathleen Turner Overdrive giving this track some fine vocal and musical touches-love those background harmonies further adding to the atmosphere as well as a celebratory vibe-just before the lead vocals kick in-in what sounds like the joy that Tim from Fields Of Dawn must have felt when this collaboration to raise awareness and contribute towards cancer research first came to light through the magnificent production skills of DSCLabs Productions of the USA. This collaborative effort as a whole sounds so very heartwarming, lush and also so much fun. It’s such a beautiful and warm tribute. The bass guitar is driving and dancing as a wash of guitars and synth pulls us towards an outstanding vocal and musical performance. Towards the end as we hear the different vocal lines jump from speaker to speaker; then front and centre around this stunning musical backdrop-wow-this is a wonderful piece of sound design which helps emphasise everyone’s strengths here plus the sense of unity and musical depth this collaboration has. This is a brilliant effort from each contributor showing us just how those around us in this music community can be when gathered together for a cause, doing what we as artists and musicians love to do and doing it well-reflecting the sheer impact that music can have on our emotions and feelings. This is utterly outstanding work and definitely worthy of being celebrated and recognised by our community as the best our global scene can be as it is. Congratulations to Tim and all involved.
