There are moments while listening through the incredible music that is being created daily by some of the most talented artists on the planet when all of a sudden your jaw genuinely hits the metaphorical floor. The indie community is consistently one that tends to do just that-including this wonderful piece of music, with the simplicity and almost mystical beauty that occurs when combining only two instruments (on this occasion-guitar and voice…and yes at the close there is a percussive tone of a bell to give it a definitive full stop)- “Mystical Angel”.
Fusing the extraordinary gifts that Deedra Patrick’s voice can convey as well as the exemplary guitar and musical qualities that the -hitherto unknown to myself-the multi-instrumentalist and versatile Torgeot (It’s a certainty these ears are going to be listening to more of this artist) Looking through Togeot’s catalog I see there are tracks from early 2020 through 2023 and this latest superb offering.
Upon first listen to the wondrous example of a great musical pairing that is Deedra’s and Torgeot’s “Mystical Angel”, the aforementioned jaw definitely did drop to that floor. After Deedra hits an ethereal and stunning vocal height towards the peak of this track which had already stunned the ears with a delicate, yet powerful instrumental backdrop from Torgeot’s guitar work-well you could say after picking up my jaw I sat in stunned yet satisfied silence. A piece of musical beauty that really does give reason to be amazed and grateful to be a part of this inspiring indie scene. The beautiful musical collaboration that results from the simple pairing of two incredibly talented artists-guitar and voice…is definitely something to stop whatever you’re doing and listen. An incredible song that balances the Sublime and the Emotional. A masterpiece of songwriting with a story that is (much like life) both heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. Deedra’s song is about losing someone you love but feeling their presence as a Guardian Angel, still there protecting and guiding you. Your loved ones never truly disappear when they pass-they are still there whenever you think of them. When you’re reminded of the good moments shared with your loved one. In a song they loved or that which they enjoyed doing in life. This song is a powerful reminder that love doesn’t truly pass. Love, emotions and shared life experiences live on in our collective memory. A wonderful message to offer hope.
