Already found “Leena (We Got Time)” a standout amidst so many standout songs on Creep Diet’s album “Big Mistake” but upon learning of the backstory of this piece has given this track an extra depth of wow to just how brilliantly structured and written this piece is.
This song along with the knowledge of the background shows an added dimension to “Leena (We Got Time) and the addition of these very human qualities which the songwriter here ought to be proud of. The music is stark, raw and honest- a brilliant display of honesty, understanding and carrying the punk rock ethos throughout. Considering the subject, and the essence of this song-the protagonist of this piece has shown the kind of friend and person you are- and this is a genuine gift. They understand that their friend is suffering (even if this friend may not realise this…) but instead of chastising him or making your friend ashamed of their actions-within this song there is a gentle reminder to a friend that the songwriter KNOWS this person is still there deep down and is offering support by letting them know that there is someone there ready to help them sort this out. This is being a quality friend and human being right there. Was always a huge fan of this track- but now I can hear in those 2 minutes and 13 seconds of powerful punk rock that appears on this brilliant album the expression of a friend offering support to another without judgment or any shaming, letting your friend know there’s a problem which can be fixed-the punk attitude is there still sonically pummelling a positive message home. What a work of excellence and proof of the good people we have around our community. Including Creep Diet. Celebrating a truly legendary song, an incredible album, fantastic all round artist and an amazing human being here.
