There’s sometimes fleeting, sometimes moments we’d love to enjoy for longer as we observe our surroundings and find that indeed we are pretty lucky to be here on this wondrous planet-a moment when we’re reminded that being here is quite a profound experience. When a piece of stunning musical beauty appears in our periphery such as this piece from true indie gems in JoDan Music, there is a part of our day when we can stop and allow ourselves to enjoy the surrounding sunshine. Here we’re driven to the “Wishing Well” by JoDan Music- and what a wonderful reflection of the magnificence and marvellous musical gifts available all around our global music scene there is with this incredible work of sonic art.
We’re invited to make a wish with the always ultra impressive musicality (and with quite the musical upbringing and pedigree…) of Dan Wilburn weaving intricate guitar flourishes around his partner Jo Wilburn’s evocative and exemplary voice combining to convey a captivating sonic story. This song musically has a swagger- a very confident head held high journey up to a wishing well to make that wish. We know that Granter of Wishes spoken of in the choruses will be persuaded by those gentle (with solid force) guitar prods to make Jo’s wish come true.
While listening through JoDan Music’s entire oeuvre we get two different views of the musical landscape-with Jo’s songs taking the mellower (while retaining a lot of strength-some “Oklahoma Red Dirt Grit”…), through to classic rock with a tinge of Southern Country Rock while Dan displays his immense skills in the harder edged hard rock (plus I’m hearing slight echoes of vocal stream of consciousness lyrical rhyming schemes)- when they get together on a track such as “Wishing Well”…that’s where this duo’s combined individual talents are a formidable force. An exquisite piece and certainly yet another reason our indie community is brimful of astounding talent and one to be proud to be involved in.
