Always ready to support my long time friend, local legend and fellow study mate Mark Halliwell in any way I can. While listening to this unique sidestep from the usually prog inspired displays of his virtuosity (which is indeed also very inspiring) -the stunning track “Shining Starr” was a pleasant surprise. There’s usually a quite progressive musical edge to his music, however this one really hit home as a great piece of songwriting that captures a uniquely 80s yet distinct melodies that will be caught in my mind for a while yet. A very catchy and well crafted song which only furthers the awe at the range of styles you can cover. Although it’s always a delight to hear a million notes-here it only takes a few to show how incredibly talented you are. A valuable lesson learned here in song craft. Absolutely love this piece, Mark. This track is a wonderful reminder that yours is a gift worth celebrating.
A kind encouraging word or celebrating the achievements of another is always going to benefit our scene positively. Each artist who has gifted our community and planet with their music and have profoundly moved another always can be a major positive force in our community, and seeing artists offer the support and encouragement toward one another’s gifts certainly helps make belonging here so much better.
“Shining Starr” is yet another glorious example of your unique voice. There’s been a surge of amazingly inspiring, and real human made music from all around our scene lately (although this piece is from early October 2025 it seems the music since this dropped has been steadily rising to the quality music we hear on this and the current music on offer today) and that is certainly a valid reason to feel fortunate and indeed proud to be a part of a very supportive and caring group of human beings who also happen to be extremely talented and immensely creative artists. It’s brilliant to belong to a scene that highlights one another’s musical gifts and strengths as well as their human qualities. A global community that genuinely encourages, inspires, and uplifts each other to greater heights. This song is brilliant, my friend. Your music inspires and uplifts. Your support and encouragement of others likewise does the same, Mark. For that I thank you.
