Upon hearing “Fate”- the first release (August 21, 2025) from Tegan Hughes-there was an inkling that our indie music community had gained another immensely gifted artist and songwriter. In Tegan’s case here we have a unique musical voice which is often a transcendent and cinematic experience. “Fate” announces itself with a subtle whisper and builds itself towards a dynamic and emotionally charged crescendo which immediately gives an impression that here is a rising artist in our scene who has arrived with meteoric potential. The harmonic choices in the vocals, the detailed themes in the melody to fit the sombre lyrical structure of this piece-particularly as this song soars into its haunting refrain “My Dear” as it heads toward the closing cadence (musically fitting the theme of resigning to the “fate” of letting go)…already you are transported and astounded at the sheer depth of talent, creativity and highly skilled songwriting Tegan has within her music. This song is a spectacular introduction to an artist whose music is an immersive and unique blend of which we as an indie music community can be grateful there are artists such as Tegan and those found all around our global scene whose musical gifts help make us all proud to belong to this music community and inspires us all as artists to work on our shared passion and craft-music.
