About
Myles O’Flaherty is an independent solo artist from Australia, composing, recording and producing each instrument and vocal part for Myles O’Flaherty Music, a project started early 2024. Involved in the music scene since age twelve, began his career playing drums(1993), doing session work, teaching drum set (1996-2020) and performing with many bands during this time, studied music performance both group and solo at secondary school and both music performance(jazz/popular) and music industry skills at tertiary level. A life long passion for music including all styles and genres, instruments and sounds. Decided to begin writing my own songs on a one string ukulele found in the garage at age three(1st song composed was the delightfully upbeat “Dead Man Across the Shore”) Previously performed and recorded with Liquid Nales, Bendah, Mark Halliwell, Heidi Gass and the duo “Rise Above, Phoenix” along with Fiona Honeyman and many, many more through those years.
A personal highlight has been being introduced to all the brilliant people and artists from all around our the global indie community through Sweet Beets and the opportunities presented through curating a weekly playlist (which, along with the Driven and Flagship playlists is a brilliant way to discover and get to know the artists and music from all throughout our scene while also being able to share my own music is a wonderful honour and quite an experience to be able to see and hear the depth of talent we have within our global music scene) Another HUGE personal highlight has been the opportunity to collaborate with two indie legends in Whiskey Club and Dashing Skull Club on a special tribute project for a lost friend on a cover of Lou Reed’s “Satellite Of Love”- through the wonderful production skills of Aaron at DSCLabs Productions(also of Dashing Skull Club) this collaboration turned into a celebration of the indie community as it truly is. There’s a whole lot more to come with these collaborations from Myles O’Flaherty Music and the “Dynamic Duo Club Sandwich” (Whiskey Club and Dashing Skull Club) and hopefully more from artists from all around the incredible pool of talent we’re fortunate to have within our global indie scene. That’s where the unity that our indie scene is capable of is at its best.
As for influences I could go on all day-this community inspires the heck outta me. But quite fond of The Beatles, Silverchair (as well as Daniel Johns solo)The Sanctity Of Crows, Whiskey Club, Dashing Skull Club, The Flying Beets, Redial Destination, Even Without Life, Tension Splash, Kathleen Turner Overdrive, The Doors, The Fraz Band, The Fiery Furnaces, Jeff Buckley, Powderfinger, Shakti, Mr. Bungle, Miles Davis, David Bowie, The Belle Vue Zoo, Devendra Banhart, Kate Bush, The Steve Klatt Project, Jimi Hendrix, Herbie Hancock, Tegan Hughes Music, Ween, Robert Johnson, Little Walter, Primus, Patti Smith, Björk, Boorook(Brett Clarke), Weather Report, Frank Zappa, Feminoise, Laurie Anderson, John Lennon, Trenchfoot, the list goes on, an on, and on…Definitely do yourselves a favour and check out these artists and more. Music as a whole fascinates me. Indie music is the wondrous heart of it all. There’s a lot to discover all throughout our global indie community. The bands and artists I’m so grateful to have discovered through our indie community gives me reason to know there is a LOT of brilliance out there and sunshine to enjoy, no matter how bad you feel in the moment-there is always music as your guiding light and an artist around who can profoundly inspire you.

Song-Try Not to be a misanthropic moth, Paul
Description-
Part Two of a three part trilogy(part 3 is only 19 seconds long but I did want to showcase Larz and John Wayne Spacey’s additions to this track on Synth and Bass guitar respectively as well as I had to make this a trilogy…(my own reasons…))
The origins of this track and whole “Paul the Moth” trilogy began when my work was literally interrupted by unforeseen events around June 20, 2024 when an eye infection spread to my brain(sorry about adding the gore here) and just before getting flown to hospital in Melbourne for multiple surgeries I had a song almost complete with the first line sung…and I happened to take a photo of a giant moth who was hanging around outside. Due to complications from the surgery I couldn’t quite sing or come up with a way to tell the story of this gigantic moth who became a third housemate along with me and my cat Miss Pablo(the moth may have looked rather scary and did get a little grumpy on first meeting-but we learned he was quite the affable fellow and even did the dishes which was a plus) the rest of the piece that begun as part one “Work Interrupted By Unforeseen Events” was left as is with the “story” of the song added to the film clip…(you had to read pretty fast…).
Part 2 “Try Not to Be a Misanthropic Moth, Paul…”-this particular track was produced masterfully by the legendary John Wayne Spacey (Aaron Leet (🤫Secret identity🤫-also guitarist of Dashing Skull Club as well as producer) at DSCLabs Productions…this track sees much more lyrics happening as Paul gets a bit misanthropic and starts yelling at the TV, scaring poor Miss Pablo and forcing me to get the soap and mustard out for some of his more foul mouthed expeditions…This track was one of the tracks which was produced before another bloody long stay in hospital in 2025 but it is (yet another) perfect example of the indie community helping one another out and the friendships I’ve gained and immensely appreciated along this journey. I played the drums, guitars, tin whistle(always hide a tin whistle there for my Irish heritage), a barbershop quartet style vocal(not really…four part harmonies) and then Aaron and Larz contributed Bass and Synth for the funky little solo section. Watching Aaron produce this and being able to add my own ideas was where the real fun was- there were a lotta laughs and unintentional moments we decided to keep in(like “Paul” stomping into the room- you’ll hear it…) exactly like when we got together on a real collaboration with Whiskey Club on the cover Satellite of Love(that one has even more “secret” hilarious moments throughout- this is truly the reason why our community is the best with some of the best memories to share, quality lasting friendships gained and the fun and love of creating music. And enjoying every moment. Even while in hospital. And taking a seemingly innocent photo of a giant moth. Looking forward to more collabs with legends from our community soon.
