About
Distance from Zero are a post punk duo, originally from Manchester but now based in Cumbria UK. Featuring the combined talents of Donna-Marie Stevens and SJ Collier. Both influenced by the early punk rock, post-punk, electronic, new wave and goth scene.
The musical style is primarily post punk but draws on dub, electro and 90’s Manchester indie. Previous releases have drawn several comparisons from the likes of PiL, Dub Sex, Levellers, Killing Joke, The Cure, Chameleons & Gary Numan. The songs reflect observations of life over the last few decades, politics, war, corruption, austerity, personal challenges, failures & triumphs.
Currently very active in the Independent Music Community. Working with the mantra; "music makers were music fans first, and we still are". Simply competing with one another, we are all weak, working together, we are much stronger. The new independent music scene is rising.
Collier previously wrote and performed with Manchester bands SupaJamma and Raindance, solo as Johnny Come Latelys. Also, co-writing a few songs with Mancunian punks Dog Toffee. He and Stevens also released an electro punk album 'Collateral Damage' and post punk album 'Pilot Error'
3 EP's dominated 2021 'What the papers Say', all current affairs for each particular month of the year. 2024 / 2025 has been a stream of singles leading up to the full album release of 'Flow State',
available Spring 2026.
